여기서 이해가 된다 안된다를 말하는거라면 understand를 쓰면 될텐데
왜이렇게 길게 말을 할까?
이 둘은 뉘앙스에 차이가 있다.
간단하게 말하자면
understand는 그냥 이해를 했는지 안했는지를 말하고
wrap one's head around는 이해를 하려고 노력을 했고, 그것이 됐다 안됐다를 말한다.
그냥 알아, 몰라가 아닌 것이다.
wrap one's head around는 보통 can't와 cannot만 사용한다.
책의 예문도 보면 전부 can't를 사용하고 있다.
아무래도 이해가 된다, 안된다 라는 단순한 의미가 아닌
이해하려는 노력이 들어가는데다 can't, cannot을 직역해도 그렇고
이해를 할 수 있다, 이해를 할 수 없다로 표현을 하는것 같다.
뭐 이해가 안된다는 표현도 전하는 의미가 별로 다르지 않지만 말이다.
그리고, "I will wrap my head around this."라는 일반적으로 잘 사용되지 않는다.
"I will try to understand this."가 더 자연스러운 문장이 된다.
