adequate는 '충분하고 적절한'이라는 뜻을 가진 형용사다.

어떤 목적을 달성하기 위해 무언가가 '적합하다'라고 말을 할 때 쓰인다.

• The facility did not have adequate medical supplies to carry out first aid.
  그 시설에는 응급처치를 할 수 있는 적합한 의료품이 없다.
• The professor used adequate examples to deliver his point.
  교수는 요점을 전달하기 위해 적절한 예시를 사용했다.

adequate와 헷갈릴 수 있는 단어로 appropriate가 있다.

둘 다 '적절한'이라는 뜻을 가지고 있지만 차이가 있다.

• adequate : 양적인 무언가가 적절함
• appropriate : 질적인 무언가가 적절함 - 올바른 언행이나 알맞은 대처 방법 등 주로 사회적 상황에 바람직하고 알맞은 것에 사용됨

Online education: 4 reasons why we loved or hated it

• For young people who were in university at the height of the COVID pandemic, the university experience was suddenly radically different to what they had expected.
  코로나 팬데믹이 한창일 때 대학에 다니는 젊은이들에게, 대학 경험은 갑자기 그들이 기대한 것과는 근본적으로 달라졌습니다.
• Teaching moved quickly online, with students forced to adjust to using digital tools to complete their online education at home. 
  학생들이 집에서 온라인 교육을 완료하기 위해 디지털 도구를 사용하는 것에 적응해야 했기에 교육은 빠르게 온라인으로 옮겨졌습니다.
• Those looking forward to life on campus instead saw social and extra-curricular activities curtailed. 
  기대했던 캠퍼스에서의 삶 대신에 사회 활동과 과외 활동이 축소되는 것을 보았습니다.
• Meanwhile, opportunities for internships and placements were often lost.

     학생들이 인터넷 접속뿐 아니라 적절한 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 가지고 있는지 확인하는 것이 필수적입니다.
3. International students may need extra attention
   유학생들은 특별한 관심이 필요할 수 있다
   • The pandemic-induced changes to the university experience were particularly hard on students from overseas.
     팬데믹으로 인한 대학 경험의 변화는 특히 해외에서 온 학생들에게 힘이 들었습니다.
   • While universities did endeavour to communicate with international students during this period, my research suggests that in many cases these messages were lost in translation and the support was not adequate.
