떡갈나무와 갈대

There was a giant oak tree near a river where reeds grew.
Whenever the wind blew, the great oak tree stood proudly upright with its arms lifted to the sky.
But the reeds bowed low in the wind.
"Even the slightest breeze makes you bow your heads, while I, the mighty oak, can stand upright and strong," said the oak tree arrogantly.
"Don't worry about us," replied the reeds.
"The wind doesn't hurt us."
A few days later, there was a big storm.
The oak tree stood proudly and fought against the storm.
But the reeds bowed lower as the wind got even stronger.
All at once, the great oak tree fell.
Better to yield than to resist stubbornly and be destroyed.
갈대가 자라는 강가에 거대한 떡갈나무가 있었습니다.
바람이 불 때마다 커다란 떡갈나무는 두 팔을 하늘로 치켜들고 당당하게 섰습니다.
하지만 갈대는 바람에 고개를 숙였습니다.
떡갈나무가 교만하게 말했습니다. "산들바람에도 너희는 고개를 숙이는구나. 하지만 전능한 떡갈나무인 나는 꼿꼿하게 설 수 있어."
갈대가 자만하며 대답했습니다. "우리는 걱정하지 않아도 돼요.
우리는 바람에 상처를 받지 않아요."
며칠 뒤, 큰 폭풍이 왔습니다.
떡갈나무는 늠름하게 서서 폭풍에 맞섰습니다.
반면에 바람이 거세질수록 갈대는 더욱 고개를 숙였습니다.
어느 순간 갑자기, 커다란 떡갈나무가 쓰려졌습니다.
고집스럽게 저항하다가 무너지는 것보다는 양보하는 게 낫습니다.

   • '바람은 우리를 해칠 수 없다', 혹은 '바람은 우리를 해치지 않는다' 두 가지로 해석이 가능하다.

2. The reeds bowed lower as the wind got even stronger.
