• 사냥할 때 덤불 주변을 두드려 숨어있는 동물들이 겁을 먹고 날아오르거나 뛰쳐나오게 만드는 행동에서 유래.
• 동물을 직접 건드려 화나게 할 수 있기 때문에 덤불을 직접 치지 않고 주변을 쳤던 것.
• 핵심을 건드리지 않고 주변 덤불을 두드리는 모습을 표현한 이 문장은 '변죽을 울리다'라는 의미로 사용되고 있다.
