토끼와 거북이

one day, a rabbit was making fun of a turtle for being so slow.
"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked, laughing.
"Yes," replied the turtle, "I get there sooner than you think. I'll race you and prove it."
The rabbit was amused at the idea of racing the turtle, so he agreed to it.
The rabbit quickly ran far out of sight, and to make the turtle feel ridiculous, he lay down, 
waiting for the turtle to catch up.
Meanwhile, the turtle kept going slowly but steadily.
After a while, he passed the palce where the rabbit was sleeping.
The rabbit continued to sleep very peacefully.
When he finally did wake up, the turtle was already near the finish line.
The rabbit ran as fast as he could, but he could not catch up to the turtle in time.
The race is not always to the swift.
어느 날, 토끼가 거북이를 너무 느리다고 놀렸습니다.
"그렇ㄱ 느려서 어디 갈 수 있겠니?" 토끼는 비웃으며 물었습니다.
그러자 거북이가 대답했습니다. "네 생각보다 빨리 갈 수 있어. 우리 시합 하자. 내가 증명해 보일게."
토끼는 거북이와 달리기 시합을 할 거라 생각하니 신이나서 시합에 응했습니다.
시합이 시작되자 토끼는 재빠르게 시야에서 사라졌습니다.
거북이를 더 우스꽝스럽게 보이게 하기 위해 누워서 거북이가 따라잡기를 기다렸습니다.
그러는 동안, 거북이는 느리게, 하지만 꾸준히 계속 나아갔습니다.
얼마 후 토끼가 잠들어 있는 곳을 지나가게 되었습니다.
토끼는 계속 평온하게 잠을 자고 있었습니다.
마침내 깨어났을 땐, 거북이가 이미 결승성네 다다르고 있었습니다.
토끼는 최대한 빨리 달렸지만, 거북이를 시간 안에 따라잡을 수 없었습니다.
빠르다고 해서 항상 이기는 것은 아닙니다.

1. "Do you ever get anywhere?"
   "어디 갈 수라도 있겠니?"
   • ever는 어감상으로 '과거, 현재, 미래를 망라하는 모든 시간'을 의미한다.
     따라서 맥락에 따라 '언제든', '언제나', '항상' 등 다양하게 풀이된다.
   • ever에 n이 붙은 never는 과거, 현재, 미래를 망라하는 모든 시간이 아닌,
     '절대로 ~ 않다'의 뜻이 된다.
   • forever = for + ever / 과거, 현재, 미래의 모든 시간 동안(= 영원히)
     whenever = when + ever / 모든 시간 중 언제나 (= 언제나, ~할 때 언제든지)
     first-ever = first + ever / 모든 시간 중 처음 (= 생전 처음의)
2. The race is not always to the swift.
   빠르다고 해서 언제나 시합에서 이기는 것은 아닙니다.
   • swift는 '신속한', '재빠른'이라는 뜻을 가진 형용사다.
     예문에서처럼 수식하는 단어가 없이 the가 붙으면 '~한 사람'이 된다.
     the swift라고 하면 '빠른 사람'이 된다.
   • the rich and the poor : 가난한 사람들과 부자들

• The video explains the creator’s dissatisfaction with the time it takes to charge an electric vehicle, and shows the complete conversion of a Model S Tesla as well as the adaptation of a power plant generator that burns gasoline to charge the car, instead of using the traditional plug-in charger.
  이 비디오는 전기 자동차가 충전하는데 걸리는 시간에 대한 불만을 설명하고 기존의 플러그인 충전기를 사용하는 대신에 가솔린을 태워 차를 충전하는 발전소 발전기를 개조한 것 뿐만 아니라 테슬라 모델 S의 완전한 개조를 보여줍니다.
