The Heron
왜가리

A heron was walking along the bank of a stream, looking at the clear water.
His long neck and pointed bill were ready to catch something for breakfast.
The clear water was swarming with fish, but the heron was hard to please.
"No small fish for me," he said. "Such small fish are not fit for a heron."
Then a fine perch swam by.
"No thank you," said the heron. "I wouldn't even bother opening my beak for something like that!"
As the sun rose, the fish left the shallow water near the shore and swam down to cooler water.
The heron didn't see any more fish, so in the end, he had to settle for having a tiny snail for breakfast.
Do not be too hard to please, or else you may have to be content with the worst or with nothing at all.
왜가리 한 마리가 강둑을 따라 걸으며 투명한 물속을 응시하고 있었어요.
왜가리의 긴 목과 뾰족한 부리는 언제든 아침거리를 잡을 준비가 되어 있었습니다.
투명한 물속에는 물고기 떼가 돌아다니고 있었지만, 왜가리는 그날따라 만족하지 못했습니다.
"나는 작은 물고기는 안 먹어. 왜가리가 저렇게 작은 물고기를 먹어서 되겠어?"
그 뒤에 멋진 농어가 헤엄쳐 지나갔습니다.
"아니야, 저런 것을 위해서는 부리를 벌리고 싶지도 않아!"
해가 떠오르자, 물고기들은 강가의 얕은 물을 떠나 강의 깊은 곳, 시원한 물이 있는 곳으로 헤엄쳐 내려갔습니다.
더 이상 물고기를 볼 수 없었던 왜가리는 결국 아침으로 작은 달팽이 하나에 만족해야 했습니다.
너무 까다롭게 굴지 마세요. 그렇지 않으면 아무것도 남지 않거나, 제일 싫어하는 것으로 만족해야 하는 수도 있습니다.

1. "I wouldn't even bother opening my beak for something like that!"
   "저런 것을 위해서는 부리를 벌리고 싶지도 않아!"
   • bother는 '신경 쓰다', '신경 쓰이게 하다', '괴롭히다'라는 뜻이 있다.
     다른 말로 하면 '귀찮게 하다'라는 말이다.
   • Don't be botherd. → 신경 쓰지 마.
     Don't bother your sister/brother. → 동생 괴롭히지 마.
2. Do not be too hard to please, or else you may have to be content with the worst or with nothing at all.
   너무 까다롭게 굴지 마세요. 그렇지 않으면 아무것도 남지 않거나, 제일 싫어하는 것으로 만족해야 하는 수밖에 없을 수도 있습니다.
   • Put on some bug spray, or else you'll get bite.
     벌레 기피제를 뿌리지 않으면, 벌레한테 물릴 것 같아.
